Common throat and voice problems we treat

  • Persistent sore throat — that does not settle with usual treatment.
  • Hoarse or changed voice — lasting more than two to three weeks.
  • Difficulty or pain swallowing — including the feeling of something stuck in the throat.
  • Tonsil and adenoid problems — recurrent tonsillitis in children and adults.
  • Acid reflux affecting the throat — causing throat clearing, cough and hoarseness.
  • Lumps in the neck — examined for thyroid, lymph node and other causes.
  • Voice box (larynx) conditions — examined with flexible nasopharyngolaryngoscopy.

Cancer screening

Dr Puvan provides screening for nasopharyngeal, oral and throat (larynx) cancers using thorough examination and Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) endoscopy, an advanced technique that improves early detection of abnormal tissue. Early assessment of a persistent hoarse voice or neck lump is important.

Frequently asked questions

When should I worry about a hoarse voice?

A hoarse voice lasting more than 2–3 weeks should be checked by an ENT, especially if you smoke.

What does a lump in the neck mean?

Many neck lumps are harmless, but a lump that lasts more than a few weeks should be examined to rule out serious causes.

Do I need my tonsils removed?

Not always. We assess how often and how severely you get tonsillitis before recommending surgery.
